Walk-in wardrobes for Mumbai flats, planned around the space you actually have
Upload a photoGet a ballpark priceBook a site visitA walk-in wardrobe in Mumbai is usually made, not found: a spare bedroom, a long passage, or a corner of the master bedroom turned into a dressing room. Mumbai Master Carpentry designs and builds walk-in wardrobes measured to that space, with hanging, drawers, shoe and bag storage, lighting, and ventilation that suits Mumbai humidity.
We have not shown stock photos of walk-in wardrobes here, because a picture rarely matches your room. Ask on WhatsApp for photos of recent work.
Common walk-in layouts
- Single side. One run of units along a wall with a walking passage in front; works in a wide corridor or a narrow room
- L shape. Units on two walls, often with a mirror or dressing counter at the short end
- U shape or parallel. Units on three walls or both sides; needs a larger room but gives the most storage
- Bedroom alcove. A partitioned section of the master bedroom, closed off with a partition or a sliding door
How much space it needs
As a rough guide, wardrobe units are about 2 feet deep and a comfortable passage is about 3 feet, so a single-side walk-in needs roughly 5 feet of clear width and a parallel layout roughly 7 feet. We measure the room, the clear ceiling height, the window, the door swing and the AC and switch points before drawing. If the space is too tight, we will say so; a full-height sliding wardrobe with a loft sometimes stores more than a cramped walk-in.
Open shelves or shutters
Open units look good and are quick to use, but in Mumbai they gather dust and let humid air reach the clothes. Most clients mix the two: open hanging for daily wear, and shutters, glass or drawers for occasional clothes, bags, sarees and shoes. Our hinged vs sliding wardrobe guide helps decide the shutter type where you do want doors.

Humidity, ventilation and lighting
A closed dressing room in Mumbai can smell musty by the second monsoon if it is not planned for air. We laminate the inside surfaces, use a suitable plywood grade, leave ventilation gaps at the base and top of the units, and keep clothes off any outer wall that takes rain. A small exhaust or keeping the room on the AC during the monsoon helps a lot. Our monsoon furniture care guide has the day-to-day steps. Inside the units we plan profile or strip lights, with a switch or sensor at the entry, and a full-length mirror where it fits.
Material and hardware
Plywood with laminate is the usual choice, with veneer or acrylic shutters where clients want a richer finish. Drawers get soft-close channels, and accessories such as pull-out trouser racks, tie and belt trays, and shoe racks are chosen on the visit. The grades we build with are on materials we use, and fittings are explained in our kitchen and wardrobe hardware guide.
What the price depends on
A walk-in wardrobe is a measured quote. For reference, our hinged wardrobes start from an indicative ₹22,000 for about a 6×8 ft unit; a walk-in is several such runs plus drawers, accessories and lighting, so it costs well above that. Read the wardrobe cost guide for how we build up a quote.
- Running feet and height. How many walls carry units and whether they go floor to ceiling
- Shutters and drawers. Open units cost less than shuttered ones; each drawer adds channels and fronts
- Accessories. Pull-outs, shoe racks, a dressing counter and a mirror
- Lighting and finish. Profile lights, laminate or veneer, and handle choice
How the job runs from visit to install is on the process page, and workmanship is covered by our 1-year warranty. If the walk-in is part of a larger job, such as a 3BHK wardrobe package, each part is still its own line on the quote.

FAQ
As a rough guide, a single-side walk-in needs a passage of about 3 feet plus about 2 feet of wardrobe depth, so roughly 5 feet of clear width. An L or U layout needs more. In many Mumbai flats a walk-in is carved out of a spare bedroom, a large passage or part of the master bedroom. We measure first and tell you honestly if a regular wardrobe would serve you better.
Open shelving looks good and is easier to browse, but in Mumbai it collects dust and lets humid air reach the clothes. Many clients mix the two: open hanging for daily wear, and shutters or glass for occasional clothes, bags and shoes. If the room has a window or AC, we plan for that too.
We use a suitable plywood grade, laminate the inside surfaces, leave ventilation gaps at the base and top, and suggest a small exhaust or keeping the room on the AC circuit during the monsoon. Clothes should not be packed tight against an outer wall. Our monsoon care guide covers the rest.
Yes. We plan profile or strip lights inside the units, a sensor or switch point near the entry, a full-length mirror and, if there is room, a dressing counter with drawers. The electrician work is coordinated with your electrician or ours, and the points are marked before we install.
It is a measured quote, because it depends on running feet of units, height, how many shutters, drawers and accessories, and lighting. For reference, our hinged wardrobes start from an indicative ₹22,000 for about a 6×8 ft unit; a walk-in is several such runs plus fittings, so it costs well above that.
