Wall panelling for Mumbai homes, fixed so it lasts through the monsoon
Upload a photoGet a ballpark priceBook a site visitWall panelling turns a plain wall into the main feature of a room: behind the TV, behind the bed, along a passage or in an office cabin. Mumbai Master Carpentry makes wooden, fluted, veneer and laminate panelling measured to your wall, with concealed wiring and a fixing method that suits Mumbai humidity.
We have not shown stock photos of panelling here, because finishes look very different in your light. Ask on WhatsApp for photos of recent work and finish samples.
Where panelling works best
- TV wall. Panelling behind a floating TV unit, with a hidden cable channel and a strong backing for the bracket
- Bed back wall. A full-height or half-height panel that doubles as a headboard, often with side lights
- Living and dining feature wall. One accent wall in fluted or grooved panels instead of wallpaper or texture paint
- Passage and entrance. Durable laminate panelling that takes knocks better than paint, paired with a shoe rack or seating
- Office cabins and reception. Veneer or laminate panels as part of an office carpentry fit-out
Materials and finishes
The panel is usually a plywood or HDHMR board with a laminate or veneer face. Laminate is hard-wearing and easy to wipe; veneer shows real wood grain but needs polish and a little more care. Our veneer vs laminate guide and HDHMR vs plywood guide explain the trade-offs. Fluted panels give a ribbed vertical texture; flat panels with V or U grooves look calmer and collect less dust. PU or duco painted panels are possible where you want a solid colour.
Humid and damp walls
In Mumbai the wall behind the panel matters more than the panel. Outer walls that take monsoon rain, and walls shared with a bathroom, often carry moisture. We check the wall with you on the site visit. If there is active seepage, it has to be fixed first, because panelling hides damp without stopping it. On sound walls we fix the boards on a frame with a small air gap rather than gluing them flat to the plaster, and we avoid plain MDF where moisture is likely. Our monsoon furniture care guide covers the upkeep.

Wiring, lights and fittings
Panelling is the right moment to hide cables. We leave a cavity for TV and router wiring, cut out switch and socket points, and fit a backing board where a TV bracket or a shelf will load the wall. Profile lights in a groove or a cove at the top are planned with your electrician, and the points are marked before the panel is closed. If you are also doing a ceiling, our false ceiling carpentry page explains how the two are lined up.
What the price depends on
Wall panelling is a measured quote, usually worked out from the wall area in square feet. The main things that move it:
- Area and height. Full-height walls need more board and scaffolding than a half-height panel
- Base board and finish. Laminate costs less than veneer, and fluted or PU-painted panels cost more than flat ones
- Cut-outs and wiring. Each switch, socket, TV cavity and light groove adds work
- Wall condition. Uneven or damp walls need more framing or repair before panelling
If the panelling is part of a bigger job, the renovation carpentry cost guide shows how we break the quote into separate lines. How the job runs from visit to install is on the process page, and workmanship is covered by our 1-year warranty.

FAQ
For most homes we use plywood or HDHMR as the base with laminate or veneer on top, fixed on a frame so it does not sit directly on the wall. Laminate is the easiest to maintain; veneer looks richer but needs polish and care. We avoid plain MDF on outer walls or walls that show damp, because it swells in Mumbai humidity.
Not until the seepage is fixed. Panelling hides damp; it does not stop it, and the boards and adhesive fail from behind. We check the wall on the site visit with you, and if there is active moisture we suggest getting the waterproofing done first, then panelling on a ventilated frame.
Fluted panels give a strong vertical texture and work well on a TV wall, bed back or a short feature strip. Flat panels with V or U grooves are calmer and easier to clean. Fluted surfaces collect more dust, so many clients use them on a section of the wall rather than the whole room.
Yes. We plan a cavity for TV and set-top wiring, cut-outs for switches and sockets, and a backing board where the TV bracket fixes, so the load does not hang on the panel skin. Points are marked with your electrician before we close the panel.
It is a measured quote, because it depends on the wall area in square feet, the base board, the finish (laminate, veneer, fluted or PU), lighting grooves and how many cut-outs there are.
