Mumbai Master Carpentry
A pooja unit that fits your Mumbai flat, not a showroom
Most Mumbai homes do not have a spare room for a mandir. The pooja unit has to share a wall with the living room, a passage, or the kitchen, and it still has to feel like its own space. Mumbai Master Carpentry builds pooja units measured to that wall or corner: the right height for the family to sit or stand, a drawer for agarbatti and pooja items, and a top drawn so a diya is safe to light.
We have not shown stock photos of mandirs here, because a picture rarely matches your wall. Ask on WhatsApp for photos of recent work.
Three common layouts
- Wall-mounted mandir. Floats on the wall, keeps the floor clear, and suits a compact 1BHK or a passage niche
- Corner unit. Uses a dead corner of the living or dining room, often with shelves on both sides
- Floor-standing unit with doors. A taller cabinet whose doors close when the room is in use, with storage below the platform
What we check on the site visit
We measure the wall, check it for plumb, and look at where the switch and plug points are, so a light or bell has a clean path. We ask whether the family sits on the floor or stands for pooja, because that sets the platform height. We also check how close the unit is to a window or a kitchen hob, since smoke and Mumbai humidity both affect the finish.
Diya and incense safety
A wooden unit and an open flame need planning, not hope. We leave clear height above the diya, put a stone or metal plate where the lamp sits, and avoid a closed shelf directly over the flame. Ventilation gaps at the top let incense smoke out instead of staining the inside. If you plan to keep a lamp lit for long hours, tell us before we draw it.

Material and finish
Plywood with a veneer or laminate finish is the usual choice. Veneer gives a wood grain look, and laminate is easier to wipe clean of oil and soot; our veneer vs laminate guide explains the trade-off. If you want solid wood for the frame or a carved panel, the quote will say which parts are solid timber and which are ply. The grades we build with are on materials we use. A jaali back panel or door can be CNC-cut or hand-finished, and we write which one you are paying for.
What the price depends on
A pooja unit is priced as custom furniture. Simpler pieces start from an indicative ₹18,000. That is a starting band, not a city average and not a full-height mandir with doors and jaali. Read custom furniture cost in Mumbai for how we build up a quote.
- Size and type. A small wall mandir is a different job from a floor-to-ceiling unit with doors
- Jaali and carving. CNC-cut panels and hand detailing move the price
- Storage. Drawers and a lower cabinet for pooja items and festival decorations
- Finish. Laminate, veneer with polish, or a painted finish
- Lighting. We can leave a channel for a light. An electrician connects it unless the quote says we are coordinating it
If you want the unit ready before a festival, message us early. Our festive furniture page covers festival-season orders. How the job runs from visit to install is on the process page, and workmanship is covered by our 1-year warranty. A pooja unit can also sit beside a TV unit or crockery unit on the same quote, each as its own line.

FAQ
Yes. Most Mumbai pooja units we draw are wall-mounted or fit a corner, so they do not need a separate room. A shallow wall mandir with a drawer below can sit in the living room, a passage niche, or beside the kitchen, depending on what the family prefers.
Only if the unit is drawn for it. We keep clear space above the flame, use a heat-resistant base such as a stone or metal plate where the diya sits, and avoid a closed top right above it. Never light a lamp inside a unit that was not designed for it.
It depends on the finish you want. Plywood with veneer or laminate is common. For a solid wood look we will tell you what is solid timber and what is ply on the quote. See our materials page for the plywood grades we use.
Yes, a jaali back panel or door is a common request. Whether it is CNC-cut or hand-finished changes the price, so we write which one is on the quote.
No. It is our indicative starting band for a simpler custom furniture piece, not a city average and not a full-height mandir with doors and jaali. Final price follows a free site visit. Call or WhatsApp +91 9987911330.
